Sample Article #2: Befriending The Penguin – SOLID Tips And Tricks To Tame & Take Advantage Of Google’s Latest Update

So you’ve been slapped left and right by the Google Penguin? Sit back, keep your cool, and put some ice on those cheeks. As you read on and learn more about rock solid techniques to get the Penguin to your side, you will realize that it’s not so bad.

Quit Complaining: This is the very first step. Now, Google algorithm update is not perfect and it affected millions of websites. It affected every possible search term you can think of.

When you cast a net as wide as this one, for sure, you will catch some goodies along with the baddies. But here’s the thing: Google knows that their initial Penguin update is not perfect. Matter of fact, there’s still a raging debate whether this update turned negative SEO into a SERP-killing weapon. But that’s story.

The point is this – Google will release further algorithm changes to patch up the shortcomings of the initial Penguin update. That’s how it’s always been.

Your whining won’t help you. Google won’t reverse the update just because you don’t like it!

Be An Expert In Your Chosen Industry: All of these changes, the Panda and Penguin (and the next algorithm changes), are all about being relevant. Google is committed to showing the most relevant results for whatever search term you type in.

Think about it: if you are looking for the best dating coaches near you, you wouldn’t want Google to show you the top 10 dating coaches who are the best at link building. You don’t want Google to show you truckloads of affiliate sites that has little or nothing to do with your search for dating coaches, but has been blasted with Xrumer or Scrapebox.

You want Google to show you the 10 BEST dating coaches in town – the REAL experts, not the expert link-builders. Be an expert in your chosen niche, field, market, or whatever you want to call it.

Be Social: The Google Penguin’s release heralded an era in internet marketing where the Gurus, website owners, product authors, etc. can no longer be snobbish. They have to mingle and have a great time with their followers, potential, and current customers through social media if they want to keep their head and shoulders above water.

Social media is an excellent tool to get your ‘gospel’ to thousands or even millions of eyeballs. Now, that’s not to say that you should annoy your Facebook friends, harass other people into re-tweeting your Tweets, etc.

What it means to be social is to build a great community. It means to be a member of that community that everyone looks up to. Don’t be selfish! Give outstanding information and deliver great content on a regular basis. Be that good chap who always listens and gives a helping hand. Be social and you’ll soon be regarded as an expert in your industry.

Build QUALITY Links: I repeat, build QUALITY links. I have capitalized the word ‘quality’ just in case you missed it. Link-building will always be at the core of Google’s algorithm. It is NECESSARY to have other websites link back to you.

No, creating a link farm to churn out spammy links, using Xrumer and Scrapebox Blasts, and posting thousands of spun articles on directories won’t cut it anymore.

Do that and you are sure to get another double-slap from the Penguin.

Start by visiting blogs in your niche or market and commenting on their post. I’m not talking about “Nice blog, here’s my site” type of comment. Rather, read the post, find something that interests you, bring it up in your comment, and add your thoughts about it. In simpler terms, your comments should add value to the conversation… and of course, a link to your website. 

Think about the power of that: you just created a link to your website from a blog that is of ‘the same wavelength’ as yours. It introduces you to a new bunch of readers and potential customers, who are intrigued by your intelligent comment and are ready to click your link.

Stop complaining. Get to work by being social, intelligently commenting on blog posts you like, and eventually brand yourself as an expert. Rinse and repeat these steps and you’ll soon be drinking beer with the Penguin.
